Yukon was built between 1907 and 1911 for TF Allen, a businessman, who was mayor of Johannesburg from 1917 to 1919. It once contained four stained glass windows of exceptional significance portraying commerce, justice, industry and agriculture. It was declared a National Monument under the old National Monuments Act in the early 1980s and is currently a provincial heritage site.
